"I know that I am a visionary man; for if I had not seen the things of God in a vision I should not have known the goodness of God . . ."-Lehi (1 Nephi 5: 4)
Lehi is a prophet. He has a wife named Sariah, four sons named Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi, and a few unnamed daughters. Lehi and his family lived in Jerusalem, where many prophets began to prophesy of the city's destruction. As he prayed on behalf of his people and the city, he received a revelatory experience, which led quickly to a second revelation; through these revelations, he received a direction and duty to preach to the people of Jerusalem. His life was threatened as he preached, but after receiving a dream wherein an angel directed him and his family to leave Jerusalem, Lehi and his family left their land, treasures, and inheritances to travel into the wilderness.
